Why this Wine?
I shouldn’t tell you about this wine. “Why?”, you ask. This wine is so delicious and somewhat hard to find that if I share it with you all, it might all be sold out the next time I am looking for a bottle.
Over the past few years, I started to broaden my horizons and have dabbled in Spanish wines. When it comes to broadening my perspective, I must give credit where credit is due and that is to my dad. He introduced us to Clio years ago and it became a fast favorite. Historically, I have preferred California Cabs. However, with Clio, I feel as though I have hit the jackpot.
It is from the El Nido Winery in Jumilla, Spain if you know the area. I don’t, but I know it is now a place on my Bucket List. I know they produce amazing wines and that is a great reason for me to go check it out. (I love its big sister, El Nido, as well, but that takes a very special occasion to bring that bottle out as it is very pricey at approximately $99/bottle.)
Clio is 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. While I may not be able to tell you exactly what a Monastrell grape adds to this blend, I can tell you that this one wine is full-bodied and VERY smooth. With each sip you can taste something different making the wine even more interesting and complex. The sommelier had a taste with us the other night and fell in love with it. Let’s just say when you buy one bottle, you should get two if you have to share it. You will insist on a second glass, that is for sure. However, I must warn you. This wine isn’t inexpensive. At best I can find it for $40/bottle, but usually it is much closer to $50 price point. So maybe save this wine for your birthday, but definitely keep your eyes open for it. Whether it is for yourself or you actually share it with dinner guests, you will see how easy it is to
